Pan-Africanist ideas first began to circulate in the mid-19th century in the United States, led by Africans from the Western Hemisphere. The most important early Pan-Africanists were Martin Delany and Alexander Crummel, both African Americans, and Edward Blyden, a West Indian.
Delany, who believed that Black people could not prosper alongside whites, advocated the idea that African Americans should separate from the United States and establish their own nation. Crummel and Blyden, both contemporaries of Delany, thought that Africa was the best place for that new nation. Motivated by Christian missionary zeal, the two believed that Africans in the New World should return to their homelands and convert and civilize the inhabitants there.
For Du Bois, “the problem of the color line” was not confined merely to the United States and its “Negro Problem.” (During those years, it was common for many in the United States to refer to the problem of African Americans’ social status as the “Negro Problem.”) Du Bois’s famous statement was made with the clear knowledge that many Africans living on the African continent suffered under the yoke of European colonial rule.

@africandiva4824 explains what Pan-Africanism is about...

Pan-Africanism is grounded in the belief that all African descendants whether inside or outside the continent are one nation due to sharing an interconnected history.

At the beginning of the VIDC event series "Africa. Beyond Crises" we invite representatives of the pan-African network Africans Rising as well as speakers of Austrian climate and anti-racism movements.

What visions are Africans Rising fighting for?
What do their forms of protest look like?
How are their struggles related to the social protest movements in Austria?
What can we learn from each other or how can we cooperate in solidarity on global issues like the climate crisis?

Have you ever noticed that ALOT of the flags of African nations are very similar? This is not by accident. In this video, we discuss the origins of the Pan-African Flag. Africa as a continent has so much interesting and unique history that I feel as if I could make many videos on this subject. So if you are interested in seeing more African history videos please let me know down in the comments, I always love to hear feedback.

I would also like to apologize for my extremely inconsistent uploading schedule once again. I have recently been very busy and I haven't had much time to work on videos. Also, I want to make sure that these videos that I am putting out are the best it could possibly be. I would rather have inconsistent quality videos than weekly trashy videos. This doesn't mean my uploads will always be inconsistent, it's just at this time it is and I really hope that will change soon.

Thank you all for taking the time to read the description and I hope to see you all in the next chapter! :)
